Project description:
My research focus is on urban planning with an emphasis on social ambitions within planning. My point of departure is based on the fact that contemporary research on the city often focuses on notions of the dual and divided. A reason for this is that today’s modern cities are characterized of spatial segregation and unequal living conditions among people. My PhD project relates to this fact and the overall interest is to examine how this heterogeneity is handled within Swedish municipal planning, which is characterized by cooperation between public and private actors, and how socially targeted objectives are included in the planning. In other words how social questions are being dealt with by planners and in the planning process. The overall question which the PhD-project seeks to answer is: Is planning the problem or the solution for the divided/diverse city?
Projektbeskrivning
