IBF co-host at meeting for The Swedish Research Council-funded
Area Group in Environmental Psychology
The Swedish Research Council-funded Area Group in Environmental
Psychology held its annual meeting in Gävle on October 6-7,
2003. The group was formed in 1985 by Tommy Gärling, Birgitta
Berglund, and Rikard Küller, with the involvement of other
notables in Swedish environment and behavior studies such as Staffan
Hygge and Gunnar Sorte. The origins of the group, however, date
to the activity in architectural psychology that coalesced in Sweden
toward the end of the 1960s. Today, the area group consists of senior
researchers and PhD students who want to ground their work on environment-behavior
topics in current psychological science. The meetings of the area
group mainly draw participants from Sweden, but they have commonly
also included scholars from other countries inside and outside of
Scandinavia. This years meeting was hosted by Staffan Hygge of the
Department of Technology and the Built Environment at the University
of Gävle in cooperation with Terry Hartig of IBF, who also
is currently chair of the Area Group. For additional information
on the area group and the program for the just-concluded meeting,
